It is not an easy job to give a pill to your cat as the cat would certainly not enjoy you shoving a pill down his throat, and will try to protest you with his teeth and nails. Though the cats are small sized, they demonstrate amazing strength in such situations. Here are some ways which you can implement when you have to give pills to your cat

The simplest way of giving a pill to your cat is to place the pills between two spoons and crush them into powder. You can then mix this powder in the food you give to the cat. If you normally give them dry food, give the pills in wet food, as the cats take it as a treat to see different food and gobble it. They get their treat and also intake the medicine present in it.

Some medicines might be in the form of capsules. In this case, just pry open the capsule and take out the powder in it. Repeat the process as in crushed pills and serve the cat with wet food. There might be a possibility that the cat does not eat the food as it may be sick. In such situation, use of pet-pillers is suggested, which will be available at the nearest veterinary. These are plastic rods which hold the pill till you press the plunger. When getting one, remember to choose one which is long and has a soft tip.

Ask the veterinary doctor to teach you how to use it. While using these devices, you might experience difficulties in getting the cat to open its mouth. The best part of using this device is that you can be sure that the pill will go in the cat’s mouth and down his throat. Be sure to hold the cat properly, affirmatively but nicely, just to be sure that it doesn’t run away. When the cat opens the mouth, pull the trigger and remove it quickly. Once the pill has gone down your cat’s throat, do serve the cat with something he likes to have.

You can most certainly give the pills by hand in case you do not feel comfortable in using the piller. For this purpose, open the cat’s mouth and throw the pill deep down towards his throat. After doing so, hold the cat still and close his mouth and hold it in this way for sometime. This would ensure that the cat has swallowed the pill.

The above mentioned methods are not working out for you. Don’t worry!! In this case, visit the nearest medical shop and ask them to make a flavored liquid or the gel of the pills. Using this method could be a little expensive, so it should only be tried if you have failed with all other experiments.
