How to take care of cats

The cats are so far the most lovable and popular amongst the pets, and can be found in a lot of breeds, the well known ones being Siamese cats and the Persian cats. History of the cat’s origin dates back to over 8,000 years. They are considered to be domestic animals and same as other pets, which may include dogs, you need to spend some money to maintain them well.

A lot of costs are associated to raising pets, and you may to consider several factors while you are planning to keep a cat as your pet. The basic necessities like food and proper vaccination need to be thought of, apart from utility products like the litter box, water dish and a food dish. All these necessities combined together cost some amount of money to be spent, and as years are passing, some products like litter are becoming quite costly.
All these things taken care, you are also suggested to get some toys like scratching post for your cat, along with a bed and a carrier for the pet. For situations if your cat gets lost, you can also consider using an identification collar for your cat.

The diet of the cats may vary based on their age. For grown up cats one proper meal a day or two meals in small proportion would be sufficient, in comparison to the kittens, who may be required to be fed at regular intervals throughout the day till grow up to the age of  twelve weeks. Three meals a day are normally required for cats between the ages of 3 to 6 month. A wide variety of food in cans is available for cats, but it should not be used if it is left exposed for over thirty minutes. Such food is getting costlier by the day and at times a lot of it goes by in waste. So, always consider these factors before purchasing canned food. Also remember, though the cats love canned food, the dental health of the cat is not benefited any ways in comparison to the dry food.

You can even consider leaving some dry food for the cat as an option for your cat, which should always be accompanied with sufficient water. The dry food is not only less expensive than the canned food; it also prevents building up of tartar over the teeth of the cat. Choose the dry food which most benefits your cat’s health. It is suggested not to choose any generic food for the cat as it does not possess the required nutrients for you cat, although it may be less expensive for you.

You should always remember to feed your kitten properly, if you have one. Make sure that the food you are giving to the kitten is designed for kittens. The water dish should be cleaned and refilled daily. Although cats and kittens like cow milk, is should not be given to them, as it may cause diarrhea. You may give treats to the kittens sometimes, but not too often, as it will increase their body fats. The kittens can also be given the food you take but it should be well mixed in their food.

By nature the cats have the tendency to stay clean and they self groom daily. Though bathing is not required very frequently, but the cats should be brushed daily, which would not only keep the coat bright and shiny but also prevent formation of hairballs. In case you do not allow the cats outside the house, make sure that their litter box is placed well within their reach. As the cats are naturally clean animals, they dislike dirty litter boxes, so be sure to clean them everyday and replace the litter and the bag every week.

Though the cats need some maintenance, they are great friends for the humans and will always be for years ahead. Ensuring proper care and regular inspection at the veterinary would not only make your cat look healthy and happy but also save them from a lot of diseases and sickness. So if you know how to take proper care of the cats, it can make a lot of things easier.
