When you have a Golden Retriever at home, several points need to be kept in mind to well train them. It would be advisable to appoint an expert trainer who can skill them with various tips. The most important part is the teeth as the dogs love to crumble and munch on anything they get. You need to be sure that the dog’s tendency to chew should be naturally fulfilled which will reduce the pain and discomfort when the teeth are coming through.
You may try out this simple exercise for your dog. Take an old sock and fill it with ice cubes, now put it in a freezer. The dogs are tempted to chew anything, so when they start doing so, give them one of the socks from the freezer to chew. This keeps them away from chewing other items in the house and will also keep them busy. It works as a toy for them, so keep several such socks for your stock. Make sure you are always around to guide and vigil them; else it could be stuck in their throat leading to serious problems.
Leashes A leash is a leather strap or thong for holding or controlling an animal. It is a common practice to tie a leash around the dog’s mouth and force them in a direction you want them to go. This is not the best approach, because just like human beings even dogs don’t want to be forced in doing something they don’t want. Take one step at a time, first get them accustomed to a collar and leash. Start using them when it is indoor, get it tied in a fenced area or somewhere in the house. Once they are used to the leash, they would be comfortable and would not create much problems. They will be able to move in a relaxed manner making your task easier and you would need to pull them along.
When you are teaching a trick, once your puppy learns it, give an applaud as it will make them feel good. Give them enough time as they need to be skilful and proficient. When the pet gets accustomed to the leash, pick it up and call out for your dog. You will be surprised to see how they come running towards you. Hence, constant encouragement, appreciation and patience are the key words to properly train your pet and the results will be fruitful and worth the pain.
Digging around Golden Retrievers love to push or thrust their paws into the grounds very often. This is very natural and they need enough space to them. If they don’t get that, it can make them feisty and they will start digging your bed, couch or the carpet lying on the floor. Keep them in an open yard so that they will get a natural environment and dig the ground, when they feel the urge to do so. Now, when you see the holes in your hard, you should not be surprised.
If you want to avoid your yard to be damaged, try providing them another option like a pool or a sandbox as they would need space. Fill them with sand or soil and hid a toy inside. You may even keep a delightful treat and your puppy will have fun digging inside and get it out. This will avoid them from digging anywhere and anything they get their paws on. They will get used to the box and head straight towards it whenever they feel the urge to dig. Later, you may hire an expert trainer who will try and teach them further.
Breeding a Golden Retriever is a very complex task; however, it can be made easier. A novice might face a lot of problems initially as it requires a lot of knowledge and patience to rear these creatures. The above tips can really prove vital for their initial training and you will gradually realize how soon they become an inseparable part of your family.
